Resume is the most important part in a job search process, it portrays the first impression of the job seekers and employers are able to have a better understanding from the job description of the resume.
Every person does their resume writing in their own style, however, are you sure you are writing it correctly? And most important, professionally? Here are 5 mistakes you want to avoid in your resume writing.
#1 Typos or grammar mistakes
Make sure to double check your resume content after you have edited it. We have come across many candidates with good and quality resume content, but they are full of grammar mistakes and typos. So next time, be sure to read again and again to make sure that your resume is free of grammatical error and incorrect spelling.
#2 Resume that is too long
We understand that you are experienced in your industry, however we do not want to see a 6 – 10 pages long resume. If you have long experience in an industry, try to cut your resume content to maximum of 4 pages, for those who are still under entry level, 2 – 3 pages is fine enough. Also, make sure that your job scope is written in bullet form, this enables the employers to see clearly on your past work experience. Try to keep everything simple and short, a brief summary of your job scope is the best.
#3 Not including contact information
No matter how good you are in your career or how many awards you have achieved in your career life, if you forgot to add in your contact information, your resume will just be another waste for us. Remember to put in your contact number and email address so that employers are able to contact you should you be shortlisted for an interview. Don’t make a rookie mistake for being not adding your contact information in your resume!
#4 Unprofessional email address
Imagine this: your employers are looking through your resume and they come across this email address – fairyprincess@gmail.com, or even punkbadass@yahoo.com. Some employers might find that amusing and they do not mind at all, however, is that the kind of impression you want to leave for your future boss? Create a decent and professional email address with your name in it, a simple gesture goes a long way.
#5 Unrelated work experience
We understand that job seeking is a tough and stressful process, especially when no companies are replying you. Even so, this does not mean that you should apply every single job you see online, even if it is totally unrelated with your industry. A marketing agency does not want an employee who only has finance background; an automotive company does not want someone who has food and beverages background, you see what we meant? Give your future employers what they are looking for, and make sure to match your resume content with their description.
